Nigeria’s job market is still difficult, but this week’s vacancy listings show that opportunities are appearing across technology, education, finance, engineering, sales, healthcare, administration and digital media.
The bigger story is that employers are increasingly looking beyond certificates. Current listings point towards a labour market where practical skills, digital competence, commercial ability and sector-specific experience can determine who gets shortlisted.
The Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) found in its Q1 2026 Job Vacancy Analysis that formal vacancies remained concentrated in the services sector and heavily skewed towards the South-West, while entry-level opportunities for graduates remained limited.
For job seekers, that makes the weekly search more important. A vacancy that fits your skills today may disappear within days.
Here are some of the opportunities and career areas worth watching this week.
1. Graduate and Teaching Jobs
Schools remain a significant source of openings, particularly for graduates with teaching, education and subject-specialist qualifications.
Fresh graduate assistant teacher positions were listed by Glowfield International School in Lagos, alongside openings for guidance counsellors, French teachers, English teachers, Physics/Engineering teachers and Business Administration/Management teachers.
Rubeth International School also listed vacancies covering nursery, primary and secondary teaching, subject teachers and school administration.
For graduates struggling to enter traditional corporate employment, teaching can provide one of the more accessible routes into paid work while building experience.
2. Technology and Digital Jobs
Technology remains one of the strongest areas for people with marketable digital skills.
Current listings include IT project and administrative support roles, software-testing opportunities for freshers and other technology-related positions.
In Port Harcourt, current listings include IT Support Officer positions, with one advertised role offering ₦255,000 monthly, alongside administrative and graduate-level opportunities.
The long-term direction of the market is even clearer.
The World Bank’s 2026 Digital Skills Development Blueprint estimates that about 28 million workers in Nigeria will require digital competencies over the next decade.
That means skills such as software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, digital marketing, cloud technologies, AI-assisted productivity and IT support are becoming increasingly valuable.
3. Engineering and Industrial Opportunities
Engineering and industrial recruitment also feature prominently in current listings.
Dangote has advertised a Deputy Engineer – Electrical Maintenance position in Ogun and a Head of Business Continuity & Threat Intelligence role in Lagos.
Other current listings include a Vehicle Assembly Supervisor position with Kewalram Chanrai, a Maintenance Manager role at Viju Industries and Project Engineer positions with DESAC Energy.
These openings underline an important trend: technical and operational skills remain valuable outside the traditional oil and gas employment pipeline.
4. Finance, Accounting and Procurement
Finance and procurement continue to provide opportunities for candidates with accounting, audit, commercial and supply-chain backgrounds.
Current listings include an Account Receivable Officer at West African Exploration and Production, an Accounting Officer in Abuja, an Accountant/Auditor position in Delta and several procurement roles across Lagos and Oyo.
There are also openings for senior procurement professionals and professionals responsible for supplier management, purchasing and operational controls.
Applicants with accounting qualifications should not restrict their searches to jobs carrying the word “accountant”. Revenue assurance, accounts receivable, procurement, audit, compliance and financial operations can offer alternative entry points.
5. Sales and Business Development
Commercial skills remain highly relevant as Nigerian businesses compete for customers and revenue.
Current opportunities include Merchant Acquisition Associates and Sales Associates with Jiji Online Marketplace in Lagos and Abuja.
WhoDeyOnline is also recruiting for Marketing and Sales Executive and Sponsorship Sales Representative positions, while other listings include Account & Sales Manager and hotel sales and marketing roles.
These roles can suit applicants who have strong communication, negotiation, customer-service and relationship-management skills, even when their university degree is not directly related to sales.

Nigeria’s expanding digital economy is also creating opportunities in content production and media.
News Central TV has advertised roles including News Producer, Social Media Specialist and Reporters. The reporter position specifically calls for research and investigative skills, while the social media role requires video-editing and 3D-animation experience.
Other current listings include an AI Video Content Creator and Editor, Motion Designer and Video Editor and Video Editor/Content Creator positions.
The message is straightforward: media employers are increasingly looking for hybrid professionals who can write, shoot, edit, publish and distribute content rather than perform only one traditional newsroom function.
7. Healthcare Opportunities
Healthcare remains another active recruitment area.
Recent listings include Consultant Anaesthesiologist, Consultant Gynaecologist and Consultant Radiologist positions at Bergstein Hospital in Lagos, alongside nursing opportunities such as a Theatre Nurse position in Plateau.
Qualified healthcare professionals should therefore monitor both hospital-specific career pages and specialist recruitment platforms instead of relying exclusively on general job boards.
8. Administrative and HR Jobs
Administrative roles continue to provide opportunities for candidates with organisational, communication and office-management skills.
Current listings include Administrative/HR Officer positions and an HR Lead role with LG Electronics.
An Admin Officer position was also listed in Lagos, while business directories currently show openings for HR/Admin Officer roles in Port Harcourt.
For applicants at the early stages of their careers, administrative work can provide a route into operations, human resources, project management and executive support.
9. Remote and Online Opportunities
Remote work remains attractive, but job seekers should be careful not to confuse genuine employment with online scams.
Current listings include online campus representative roles, software development positions and digital sales opportunities.
A new SUSTAIN Europe Job Placement Programme is also seeking Nigerian STEM professionals for employment opportunities in Europe, reflecting the growing international demand for skilled African workers.
Applicants should verify the employer, recruitment portal, job description and application process before submitting personal documents or paying any supposed recruitment fee.
10. What Employers Are Really Looking For
The vacancy data tells a broader story.
NISER’s Q1 2026 analysis of 778 advertised vacancies found significant regional disparities and continuing shortages of entry-level opportunities. It also identified weaknesses in the alignment between available skills and labour demand.
That means merely sending out more applications may not be enough.
Candidates need to make their CVs more targeted. A finance applicant should highlight financial reporting, Excel, accounting software and reconciliations. A digital candidate should show actual projects. A salesperson should quantify revenue, customer acquisition or conversion results. A journalist should demonstrate reporting, research and multimedia production.
The shift towards digital competence is especially important.
The World Bank says Nigeria’s digital transformation is creating growing demand for digital skills across sectors, while its 2026 blueprint warns that the country’s current skilling system is not yet meeting that demand.
The Opportunity Beyond the Vacancy
Nigeria’s jobs challenge is much larger than a weekly vacancy list.
The African Development Bank says nearly 68 per cent of Nigeria’s population is under 30, making skills and employment central to the country’s ability to turn its young population into an economic advantage.
The Federal Government and development partners are also placing greater emphasis on digital infrastructure and employment. The African Development Bank approved $200 million in 2026 for Nigeria’s Digital Value Chain Infrastructure Project, which includes expanding fibre infrastructure, digital skills and job creation.
For today’s job seeker, the lesson is clear.
Do not search only for a job title.
Search for the skill employers are buying.
Search across industries.
Search beyond your immediate city.
And keep upgrading the skills that can move your CV from the application pile to the interview list.
