American Deontay Wilder has agreed terms to fight Anthony Joshua in Britain later this year, in a bout that would crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 2000, ESPN reported on Monday.
World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s next fight is “very likely” to be against Alexander Povetkin.
The titillating fight with American Deontay Wilder, may have to wait, as the World Boxing Association WBA has ordered Joshua to fight Povetkin first.
“What you cannot forget is I am the unified heavyweight champion of the world,” Joshua said, as he pointed to the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles, four sets of letters that run alongside his name. He talked of his undefeated record, his belts, and then delivered this message to the owner of the last remaining title, WBC champion Deontay Wilder: “Wilder! Let’s go baby, let’s go”.
