Three gunmen killed in Burkina Faso attack

Three gunmen have been killed at Burkina Faso’s army headquarters in the capital Ouagadougou, Defence Minister Jean Claude Bouda says.

A separate government statement said four gunmen had been “neutralised” at the French embassy on Friday but there was no immediate word on civilian casualties.

An armed group on Friday attacked the French embassy in Burkina Faso and the country’s military headquarters, the government said, adding that four assailants had been killed.

The coordinated operation underscored the fragility of the Sahel nation, one of a string of African states struggling with a bloody jihadist insurgency.
