Researchers from the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital said some supplements could pose harm to our health.


One-third Nigeria’s adult population hypertensive

The Nigeria Hypertension Society (NHS) says that one-third of Nigeria’s adult population is hypertensive.

The President of the Society, Prof. Ayodele Omotoso, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday  issued to commemorate the World Hypertension Day.

Omotoso, who is with the Cardiology Unit, Department of Medicine, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), said the theme of the 2018 World Hypertension Day is: “Know Your Numbers”.

The misuse and abuse of, and overindulgence in drugs have become a common occurrence in all age groups but more prevalent in adolescents and adults.

Some become addicted to certain drugs unconsciously and some consciously. To abuse a drug simply means to use a drug for non-medical purposes.

For example, taking a drug only for the effect it produces is an outright abuse of such drug and it eventually leads to addiction with time.

One however can become addicted unknowingly by administering such drug without resultant cure for the intended illness.

Doctors give soldier new ear after growing it in her arm

A young soldier received a new ear after she lost one during a car crash two years ago — after surgeons grew the organ beneath the skin on her forearm, US Army officials said.

Army Pvt. Shamika Burrage, a 21-year-old Mississippi native, lost her left ear when she was driving with her cousin to Fort Bliss, Texas, in 2016 and suddenly lost control of the car, causing it to crash.
